Team Leader Internship

Becoming a team leader to a start-up you know little about can seem a bit overwhelming. However, you do have a drive to lead a social start-up! Our solution is for team leaders to join the start-up in May and work as a team member until the end of the academic year. This way you will learn about the essence of the venture from the first-hand experience, you will be able to evaluate its processes critically and prepare for leading a start-up from the next academic year! During this time, you will spend time with current start-up members who will teach you as much as they can, so you are ready for the takeover!

What will you gain?

You will gain invaluable experience of leading a team, being responsible for running a start-up while still studying. Together with your team you will develop your communication, networking, negotiation and problem-solving skills. You will gain confidence and responsibility not only for yourself but for others as well. You will have to learn how to present your ideas, critically evaluate the next possible steps and structure your work together. This will be made easier by using agile management technique Scrum. You will also work as a cross-functional team, which ensures that each person’s capabilities are used to the full potential. This is also why we strongly encourage our members to join from any faculty or study at Erasmus as diversity in teams enhances our creativity and problem solving. Most importantly, if you haven’t done so, you will discover your own strengths (and possibly weaknesses). This knowledge will help you to learn and grow personally and professionally.

What will you do?

  • You will be a facilitative leader by making your team as cohesive and productive as possible. You will do the same tasks as a team member; however you will also be responsible for facilitating (making it easier for your team) to do the tasks they feel strongest at
  • So you will take on a role of a project manager who is responsible for initiation, planning, execution and monitoring of the start-up
  • Together with your team members, you will be responsible for brainstorming ideas, contacting companies and institutions

CAREER PATH AT ENACTUS

YOUR JOURNEY AT ENACTUS EUR

At our organization, we take a great attention fostering the leader capabilities within our members and give the opportunity to put these skills in practice. Our teams are cross-functional, meaning that each member is bringing their unique capabilties to the table. Each person assigns him or herself to a task that she/he feels the strongest. This process gives the opportunity to have the full responsibilty and become the leader of that partictular task. This is made possible by implementing the most widely used agile management technique Scrum. It is used by companies such as Google, Facebook, BBC. Usually, it is applied in software development and organizations which want to be quick, flexible and innovative.

We will teach everyone (no prerequisite knowledge needed) how to build and grow a social venture. We will connect you with people who can help you with many different aspects of running a social startup (through workshops or direct contact). Most importantly, if you haven’t done so, you will discover your own strengths (and possibly weaknesses). We believe in a growth mindset, thus we are sure that this experience will help you to learn and grow personally and professionally.

If you want to take the next step, we strongly encourage our members to continue their journey the next year by taking on a leadership position. For instance, becoming a venture advisor, team leader or board member. By this time, you will have the expertise to guide others through this learning journey and gain indispensible skills of leadership.
